Oney’s Butch

The late Oney’s Butch was born December 14th, 1984. He was bred and owned by the late Mitchell Oney of Greenwich, OH. Butch was registered UKC, IESR and ARF. He was of the well-known ESBT sire line going back to ARF Old Shep. To call Oney’s Butch a key ancestor of the modern ESBT bloodline is probably an understatement. Butch was bred at least 20 times or more, and several of his progeny were placed with other breeders throughout the Greater Appalachian Valley and beyond, including Carousel, Kamp, Young-Sutherland, Weaver and Yoder. As of this writing, Sherling’s Jack, Greene’s Alabama Bo and Kamp’s Tucker are living, male descendants of Oney’s Butch. It is important that these living male descendants AND their male progeny are bred to ESBT females to continue this sire line. As stewards of the bloodline, we must leverage the principles of sibling contribution[1]Bloodline stewardship; maximize sibling contribution, http://esbt.us/19 to preserve as much of the ARF Old Shep sire line’s genetics as possible.
