From Field to Forest

We had a few consecutive nights of heavy frost. So this morning, I finally got a chance to introduce Sugar to the thousand acre wood. At dawn there are a multitude of scents, sights and sounds at play in a hardwood forest. All degree of distractions for a yearling dog. But Sugar stayed close the entire hike, enthusiastically exploring, and observing but checking-in with great frequency. She was always aware of my location and obeyed my commands immediately. It is easy to see why the rural folks of these parts have been breeding these black and tan dogs for at least a century or more. They are made for this rural terrain and all that comes with it. From field to forest, Sugar has shown me time and time again that she is exactly the type of dog I want around.
